Search firm seeks experienced accountant for a leading insurance company to perform role of AVP in financial analysis. This is a direct hire position in Austin.

Requirements include:

Insurance industry experience
Accounting degree

Financial Analysis / AVP

Analysis, and reporting of all GAAP, statutory, and management financial statements, for a specific line of insurance business. Advises senior management on financial performance, and integrates the strategic and financial plans. Additionally responsible for the financial and operating control environment, including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, and sets and monitors the accounting policies and guidelines of the business.

Compile, develop and analyzes statutory, GAAP, and management financials in accordance with standards and accounting guidelines.
Facilitates source of earnings analysis, and advises senior management on issues and opportunities.
Coordinates with Special Markets, actual and pro-forma monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and analysis.
Facilitates all financial accounting and reporting with Controller’s Department.
Works closely with Actuarial in reserve, and unit cost reporting and analysis.
Develop and analyze functional unit costs and departmental unit cost trends. Works closely with the senior management team in managing the effective use of capital and resources.
Develop and analyze actual expense to plan pricing allowable trends.
Develop financial projections, working closely with other financial, actuarial and operating departments, in periodic projections of short-term and long-term financials.
Develop extensive analysis over assumptions and financial drivers.
Oversee and ensure financial and operating control environment, including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, internal and external audits.
Manage the seasonalization of financial plans – sales, revenue, earnings, and operating expenses.
Manage the research and documentation of accounting policy and its implications to accounting. Stays abreast of emerging items and coordinates accounting policy changes with Special Markets and Controller’s Department.
Monitor Investment portfolio and cash flow analysis. Works with Special Markets Investment Group facilitating the accounting, reporting and analysis of investment income and investment performance.
Manage recurring and ad hoc variance analysis on key and supplemental financial indicators and drivers.
Work with IT in managing resource, including cost benefit analysis, and ranking projects.

Requirements include:
Some experience in an accounting role in the insurance industry
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, advanced education preferred (CPA, MBA).
5 years in accounting or related positions
Sarbanes Oxley experience.
Excellent abilities in Excel.
Superior analytical, verbal and written communication skills.

Prefered:
Access, SQL and business objects/crystal reporting.
Knowledge of SAP.
