Antique, Wooden, "Tub-style" Horse-drawn Governess Cart. These beauties are rare, you'll find lots of doctor's buggies and frieght wagons still around, but Governess Carts are a rare find. They were designed so the governess could safely manage the horse while keeping an eye on her young charges. The Governess would kneel on the front of the cart, reins over the brass rein guides, the children would be seated on the upholstered benchs around her. I can't find any marks on this particular cart but generally speaking it is likely pre-1900.I'm told it's in great mechanical condition, obiviously it needs restoration. I purchased this vehicle with the idea it would be a perfect for a horse-drawn wedding vehicle. The bride and her attendants could arrive in beautiful full-view.There is a little door on the back allowing for easy access to the cart's interior. It is appropriately sized for a very large/draft horse.IT IS NOT MINI or PONY SIZED! As-is condition. As shown in photos. No shafts available.
