Front Steps Keep Austin Housed AmeriCorps members provide intensive mentoring and case management services to adults, families and youth experiencing homelessness in the Austin area. Services are geared toward empowering clients to obtain and/or maintain permanent affordable housing and improve personal stability through the development of effective life skills. The project will place members with existing service providers to carry out their term, which will allow each organization to enhance the level of service provided to its clientele. Members will provide direct mentoring and case management support by assessing client needs, developing action plans to meet goals, and providing intensive life skills education that enable program participants to maintain their housing and increase personal stability. In addition, members will educate the community-at-large on issues related to homelessness and access the support of community volunteers, in-kind donations and financial contributions. Members must be able to establish and maintain professional boundaries as well as feel comfortable working with families, children, adolescents, and single adults in issue areas of shelter and housing, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, general health, education, and refugee services. For the 2008-2009 project year, Keep Austin Housed will engage 20-30 individuals (full-time and part-time members) to serve in the Austin community from August 2008 through August 2009.
