We are in an active search for a Packaging Engineer to join our Austin Team supporting a world leader in high tech equipment manufacturing.This position reports directly to Trans-Pak's Director of Global Programs. Working under limited supervision, responsible for one or more of the Company's Packaging Engineering functions as it relates to specific division products, processes or work methods.Duties for the Packaging Engineer include the following: 1.Design and implement packaging solutions for a variety of customer products with emphasis on cost reduction and standardization. Package designs to include but not limited to cushion foam packs, plastic corrugated, corrugated fiberboard, flexible bags, and crates for both re-use and one-way containers in support of new and existing products. 2.Modify and/or evaluate existing package designs and requirements for customer systems, and/or sub system modules. 3.Under supervision, develop written packaging specifications. Translates requirements into technical written form. 4.Utilize ACAD 3D software to document and release new designs. 5.Under supervision, participate in the preparation of concept and feasibility studies. 6.Minimal Interface with packaging suppliers to establish material specifications, ensure compliance, and on-time delivery of materials and services.Estimate costs and recommend tooling and process requirements. 7.Utilizes Engineering Change Order (ECO) process to manage revision control. 8.Under supervision, utilize knowledge of product fragility analysis & package qualification testing. 9. Performs other duties as assigned. Duties will vary according to the project in progress and/or the specific goals of the department. 10. Provide minimal technical support and training specific to supplier packaging issues. Education: * BS level degree in a Packaging Engineering discipline, or equivalent. * 2 - 4+ years previous experience in the relevant engineering discipline or application. Knowledge preference list: * Basic understanding of standard packaging development processes. * Knowledge of cushion packaging, corrugated fiberboard, and/or plastic corrugated packaging design. * Knowledge of clean room packaging materials, commercial, and military crating practices. * Knowledge of standard product fragility analysis testing and package qualification testing. * Experience with standard Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes. * Other helpful knowledge: Engineering specification waiver process, product BOM structure, supplier problem sheet process, product safety design requirements, SEMI standards, first article inspection procedure, ergonomics, material handling. Skills and Abilities: * Strong skills required in package design using ACAD 3D, problem solving, written and verbal communication, technical writing, customer orientation, product technology, global business perspective, personal effectiveness, project management, team skills and quality perspective. Requires proficiency in the use of MS office application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access), and Oracle ECO.
